I am an ethnic minority prostate cancer survivor having been diagnosed in May 2023. Having listened to a presentation by Sarah Gray in May 2024, I was attracted to put myself forward to be a trustee of Tackle Prostate Cancer.

My decision was not quantum leap as I have always seen service to others as an integral part of who I am as it gives me a purpose and a sense of direction.

From an early age, I have tried to help those who were struggling in my peer group, and at the age of 13 years, I decided that I wanted to become a lawyer to try and improve people’s lives. My background is that although I was born in Wales, I was bred in Uganda and lived through some difficult times when the Rule of Law was constantly under threat. In hindsight, I believe this informed my decision. I am a qualified Advocate in Uganda (not enrolled) and a qualified Solicitor in England and Wales.

As an adult, having returned to the UK, I co-founded a friends association that is now a registered charity. Its purpose is to help mainly Ugandans who had fled Uganda and sought refuge in the UK. I continue to be a trustee of that charity.

I am also involved in another national charity at the London South Region level, helping people who are stigmatised and marginalised by society.

As a trustee of Tackle Prostate Cancer, I hope to bring the knowledge, experience and skills that I have acquired to make a positive contribution to the work that Tackle does.

While I recognise the principle of equality, I try as best I can, to practice equity towards all those I meet i.e. I try and meet them where their circumstances have placed them taking into account the hurdles, real or perceived, that they face in seeking to be place on an equal footing to and by others.

I am a strong believer in positively impacting people’s lives and I see my role as a trustee of Tackle Prostate Cancer enabling me to do this.
