The Burton Prostate Cancer Support Group

How often does Burton Prostate Cancer Support Group meet and where do the meetings take place?

We meet on the second Monday of each month at Rolleston Scouts HQ, Station Road, Rolleston on Dove, Burton-on-Trent, DE13 9AB. The venue works really well for out meetings and has free parking, which makes it even more accessible for those who need it.

Please tell us a little bit about how the support group helps those impacted with prostate cancer? What’s the wraparound support you offer?

The Burton Prostate Cancer Support Group has two main objectives :-

Talk with some ScrewFix employees
  • To support those diagnosed or impacted by prostate cancer
  • To raise the awareness of prostate cancer, emphasising the benefits of early diagnosis which can lead to successful treatment outcomes

We have over 60 registered members and regularly have between 30 and 40 people (which can include spouses and partners) at our monthly meetings. We invite speakers from both the clinical and non-clinical world.

To raise the awareness of prostate cancer we attend Health Fairs and Well-Being events as well as giving talks to local business and community groups. So far this year we have given 15 talks to organisations as diverse as Screwfix, B&Q, local Women’s Institute groups, GP patient groups as well as the local fire service.

This is what people can expect if they attend our prostate cancer support group :-

  • Peer Support
  • The ability to talk with like-minded men
  • Regular updates on Prostate Cancer research
  • Talks from medical experts
  • Talks on non medical topics eg financial planning, fire safety etc
  • Social activities eg Christmas party
