Our Response to the National Screening Statement

Friday 28 November 2025

Today’s announcement from the UK National Screening Committee, recommending targeted prostate cancer screening only for people with BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene variations, marks an important but very limited step forward in early detection. While we welcome progress for this small group, we know that many others who face higher risk, including Black men and those with a family history of prostate cancer, will feel disappointed and left behind.

At Tackle Prostate Cancer, we share that disappointment. Far too many people continue to be diagnosed late, and we hear every day from individuals and families living with the consequences of delays, uncertainty, and unequal access to testing. We will continue to work alongside partners like Prostate Cancer Research, Prostate Cancer UK, policymakers, and the brilliant organisations who have co-signed today’s joint statement to push for clearer guidance, fairer pathways, and a future where early detection is available to everyone who needs it. See the joint statement below.

As the evidence develops, particularly from the TRANSFORM trial , we remain committed to advocating for screening approaches that save lives and reduce inequalities.

What will not change is the support we offer across the UK.

Our network of 150 local support groups continues to be a lifeline for people living with and affected by prostate cancer. Every day, these prostate cancer support groups provide understanding, reassurance, shared experience, and practical help for people at every stage of their diagnosis and treatment.

Alongside this, our Make Sense of It programme supports people who are newly diagnosed with prostate cancer to understand their options and make informed treatment decisions, helping to reduce treatment regret and improve long-term wellbeing.

While today’s announcement may feel like a setback for many, our commitment to the prostate cancer community remains steadfast.

We will keep campaigning, keep collaborating, and keep ensuring that no one has to face prostate cancer alone.
