Monthly Briefing – September 2024

Hello!

Welcome to the September Monthly Briefing, it’s been a busy month since we last wrote.

We’ve welcomed a further two new trustees to the fold, Shiv Smith and Joseph Hill, who we’re very excited to have on board, read more about them here. Our total prostate cancer support group number has grown too, as we’ve welcomed groups in Lincolnshire, Somerset and West Yorkshire.

Finally, we have a bit of homework for you to do, if you haven’t already it’s really important for you to fill out the diversity, inclusion and equality survey. Find out more information on this below.

Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Survey

We’re teaming up with Prostate Cancer UK to deliver a workshop that aims to help you, as Support Group Leaders, communicate better and reach more diverse communities, especially those in the Black community. To create the most effective and tailored training session, we need your feedback on how your group is already doing this. Please answer the questions on the survey below.

Please fill out the below form by 30th September.

Tackle 5k: Tony’s Way

If you joined us at the last Group Leaders Meeting, you will have heard about this. If not, let us fill you in.

Our Vice Chair, Tony, will be taking on a 5k running challenge in November and he needs your support. You may know Tony for taking on some pretty epic challenges, but a few months ago he had to have his knee replaced. Which has meant he hasn’t been able to do his most loved thing, running. After months of rehabilitation and rest, he is stepping up to the challenge and running 5k and raising money for Tackle while he’s at it.

We will be launching ‘Tackle 5k: Tony’s Way’ later this week and asking you to donate, share amongst your networks, or even get involved! Tony has created a 10-week training plan so you can follow him along and join in on the challenge too.

More to run soon…

Campaigning News

Proactive For Your Prostate is a national campaign launched by Prostate Cancer Research to address the inequities in prostate cancer diagnosis across the UK.

The campaign advocates for the implementation of a national screening programme, leveraging the latest advancements in prostate cancer diagnosis to ensure early detection and better outcomes for all men, regardless of their location. By raising awareness and pushing for policy changes, the campaign aims to eliminate the postcode lottery and provide equal access to life-saving screenings.
