Monthly Briefing – July 2024

Hello July!
While we’re still waiting for the summer weather to arrive (it’s been rather a rainy one hasn’t it!), at Tackle HQ we’ve been busy prepping for the months ahead. We welcomed three new trustees, Dave, Gary and Paul to the board, who are busy learning about Tackle’s plans for the next few years. Their skills and expertise will be really beneficial as we continue to plan the ways Tackle can sustainably maximise our recent investment from The National Lottery Community Fund.

As always, Mark and I have been out and about visiting plenty of groups across the country and hearing how they’ve been getting on. We now have 130 groups in the federation, which is just amazing. We’re always so in awe of the work you do and the commitment you have in supporting people impacted by prostate cancer.

If you have any questions about this Monthly Briefing, then please get in touch.

As mentioned, we saw three new trustees join Tackle’s board. Dave, Gary and Paul, each bring different experiences and expertise to our team. Keep an eye on our website and social media, for a little insight into their background and what they’re looking forward to in their new role!

Group Leaders Meeting
Tuesday 6th August
Time: 11am – 12.30pm
Online: Zoom link to come

The next monthly briefing will focus on fundraising, where we will hear from our Fundraising Manager, Andrew, who will shine a light on why fundraising is so important for Tackle and how we can continue to work together to raise money for the work we do.

Tackle is a lot smaller than other prostate cancer charities, both in the amount of team members and income generated (see the picture below); but despite being small, we create big impact! That’s why in August’s meeting, we want to hear from you and what ideas you have in how we continue supporting the growing number of prostate cancer support groups across the UK.
So we can tailor our conversation, it would be useful to get some initial thoughts from you. Please fill out this short survey ahead of the next meeting by clicking the link below.

Spotlight On: Isle of Wight

This month, we’re spotlighting the Isle of Wight Prostate Cancer Support Group (IWPCSG). Many of you will know about the group’s sterling efforts with running community PSA blood testing events, but if we’re honest, that’s just scratching the surface. The amount of work the small committee achieves in supporting, campaigning and raising awareness about prostate cancer is simply brilliant; they even received a Gold Award in the Isle of Wight Community Awards! Read more about the group’s amazing work on our blog.

If you’d like to tell us more about your support group or arrange a visit, please get in touch.

New Groups
Over the past couple of months we’ve seen a surge in peer support groups joining our federation. We’ve supported the launch of brand new groups in Leeds, Somerset and Herefordshire, as well as a number of other locations across the UK. Our federation now includes 130 prostate cancer peer support groups!
