Monthly Briefing – February 2025

Hello!
Welcome to Our February Monthly Briefing
Hello to all our dedicated Support Group Leaders and Organisers,

Looking out at the grey sky, it seems hard to believe that Spring will soon be here Almost half way through February and a Spring approaches, we’re excited to remind you of an important date in our calendar: our Annual Conference, taking place in Birmingham on April 1st. This is more than just an event—it’s a vital opportunity to come together, share knowledge, and drive forward our mission in tackling prostate cancer.

Why This Conference is Important:

Reflect : We’ll review the significant progress we’ve made over the past year and discuss strategic initiatives for the future. Your experiences and feedback are crucial in shaping our journey ahead.

Engage: We shall be running specialised workshops: Tailored sessions on ‘Best Practice’‘Campaigning’, and ‘Using Local Systems’ will equip you with practical tools and insights to enhance your group’s effectiveness. These workshops are designed to help you make a more significant impact in your local community.

Connect and Collaborate: The conference is an excellent opportunity for you to network with other leaders and organisers from across the country. Sharing ideas and challenges, and forming supportive connections, can invigorate your group’s activities and expand your impact.

An Offer for You: We’re pleased to offer one free registration for each group, with additional attendees welcome at a discounted rate of £50.

Support is Available: For those who need it, we can assist with travel and hotel expenses, ensuring everyone who wishes to participate can do so without concern.

Please register soon to ensure your place at this pivotal event. It’s set to be an inspiring day, and your presence would contribute greatly to its success.

We look forward to seeing you there and working together to continue our important work. Your efforts in your communities are invaluable, and together, we can achieve remarkable things.

Finally, we kicked of our Movember funded Peer Coaching project last week, with the first two day workshop for new Peer Coaches and Trainers. You can see a photo above of the successful trainees, along with their amazing trainer Aidan. Huge thanks to all for attending, and especially to Aidan for working so hard to deliver these excellent sessions.

We all know exercise is great not only for our physical health, but also our mental health. Many people run as a form of self-help living with prostate cancer.  And if you or one of your group members, or family members is a runner and would also like to help others, why not sign up for the Great North Run and support Tackle’s work.
The Great North Run, in is Newcastle/Gateshead on Sunday 7th September this year. We have four places left – would you like one? It’s a half marathon and you must commit to raising a minimum of £500 sponsorship. We’ll provide the rest – a running vest, help with setting up a fundraising page, support with publicity and we’ll be there to cheer you on day.
Tackle uses all the money raised like this to help establish new support groups, so you will be enabling many more people affected by prostate cancer to benefit from peer support.
So, if you’re up for running 13.1 miles and raising £500, just email Andrew on [email protected] and he’ll welcome you to Team Tackle.
