Monthly Briefing – August 2024

Hello August!
We hope you’ve been enjoying the lovely summer weather. It’s been a busy few weeks since we last spoke. We’ve been continuing to develop our fundraising plans, that we’ll be implementing in a couple of months – more on this in the next update! We’ve also started recruiting for two new Peer Support Development Officers as well as planning some upcoming events that you won’t want to miss, we’ve popped more information on these below. With it being the summer holidays, various members of the team will be taking some well earned annual leave. So although one of us will always be around to answer your questions, we might be a little slower to get back to you, so please bear with us while we recharge our batteries!

Keep enjoying the sunshine. The Tackle team

Open to Group Leaders and anyone in an organising role. Please join us for this interactive session, including delivered content, discussion and exercises, aimed at maximising your ability to create a space in your local support group that is safe enough for people to share what is going on for them – to ‘approach’ challenging thoughts and feelings, rather than avoid them – in the interests of everyone being able to get, and give, as much as possible from your group .

Lunch, snacks and tea and coffee will be supplied. All travel expenses will be paid for (on submission of an expense claim and receipts). We will pay standard rail travel, or mileage at 45p a mile. If you live more than 3 hours from Birmingham, please get in touch, as we may be able to support overnight accommodation. Do get in touch with any questions.

We are very excited to announce a bit of a coup for Tackle. Knowing that lots of people have questions about the TRANSFORM trail, Tackle’s Vice Chair Tony Collier, reached our to Professor Hashim Ahmed the Chief Investigator of the TRANSFORM study, to ask if he would come and deliver a webinar and Prof. Ahmed graciously agreed.

We invite you, and your group members to join us for an exciting online event with Professor Hashim Ahmed. This will be a great chance for you to hear more about what the study is hoping to achieve and how soon it might make a difference to prostate cancer screening in the UK.

Group Leaders Meeting
At the last meeting we heard from Andrew, our Fundraising Manger, as well as our Vice Chair Tony, who talked about about our plans to get everyone moving for Tony’s 5K Tackle challenge day. Keep your eyes peeled for more news about this later in September. If you’d like to look back at the meeting, please find the slides here.

We won’t be having a Support Group Leaders meeting in September, as key staff and Trustees are on their holidays – so the next time we’ll see you will be in October. Do get in touch if you have any questions in the meantime, one of the team will be around.
